Obedience training is a wonderful thing you can do for your dog. A dog is happiest and most secure with a leader, and proper obedience training establishes you as that leader. Some people have the erroneous idea that training will detract somehow from their dog's personality or crush his spirit. The opposite is true. Training will develop his personality and intelligence and he will thrive on the bond that is created with his handler. I have been involved with obedience training for twenty years, first with my German Shepherd, Anna who went all the way through, earning a Utility Dog title and Obedience Trial Championship. I have worked with many breeds, pure & mixed at obedience classes and have enjoyed training & trialing my Bedlingtons. While all dogs benefit from training, only pure breeds can enter Canadian Kennel Club Trials, and unlike Conformation Shows, spayed and neutered dogs are welcome.
I have found the Bedlingtons to be quick & willing learners. They are sensitive and need lots of praise. Their sound temperament and friendly nature with people & dogs, makes them a joy in obedience classes and Trials.
We are especially proud of our son, Lee, who trained and handled his dog, Candy, to her CD with many high awards. Candy passed away in 2005.
